Nametag

Here is a tutorial for laser cutting your own nametag with the Glowforge Pro.

Open the template on the Makerspace PC (by the 3D printers.)

Edit this template to include your name and pronouns. After this, you must select the text with the Direct Selection Tool, and go to Type > Create Outlines (since otherwise the text will not be able to be cut.)

Save as SVG. On the "SVG Options" dialog that pops up next, make sure to choose "Embed" under Image Location.

Open the GlowForge app, and choose "Upload a file." Upload your SVG.

Load a sheet of wood into the Glowforge, and set the material to "Medium Basswood Plywood."

Make sure there's actually wood under eveything you're cutting out. Set the logo and text to be engraved, and all of the borders to be cut. Otherwise, all the text would actually be cut out of the material.

Before cutting anything out, turn on the fan with the button on the right (on top of the GlowForge.) Start the cut from the computer, and you will be prompted to press the button on the let (which will be flashing.)

Closely watch the nametag as it prints. Once it completes, wait a few seconds for the GlowForge to cool down and the smoke to dissipate before you open it.

Glue four magnets (which are usually in a drawer near the 3D printers) into the two holder pieces. These should just be press fit. Make sure that they are the correct polarity, so that the two pieces stick together.

Glue one of the pieces onto the back of the nametag. Superglue should work well for this. You're done!
